My First Days at Weimar

My decision to compose my first blog is simply due to the desire to share all this life-enhancing knowledge with my family & friends. Our schedule here at the program is such that there is not much time to respond to the queries of emails, texts, and calls re: the latest information acquired. Weimar Center of Health and Education is located on a 457-acre campus in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills above Sacramento, California. There are numerous trails that crisscross through the campus making exercise choices endless. Daily exercise is prominent in life at Weimar. My day begins at 6:10am. This night owl is quickly retraining her mind and body to acclimate. I splash cold water on my face, throw my hair into a ponytail, and grab my warmest jacket (it's been as cold as 29'F). I must admit after a week of this bizarre behavior I am more invigorated, sleep so much better, and actually look forward to the rush. Our team (including our instructors!) meets at the flagpole for prayer at 6:30am. We then embark on our...get ready...6K fast walk (3.58 miles to be exact) everymorning except on Sabbath. A unique Sabbath feature here at Weimar is that between Sabbath School and the Church Service everyone files out of the building and walks around the campus Loop (1/2 mile trail). In this way all minds are alert and engaged in the message. It's a brilliant thing and more churches would benefit from including this into their routine.

When the weather will permit, all who can possibly do so ought to walk in the open air every day, summer and winter. But the clothing should be suitable for the exercise, and the feet should be well protected. A walk, even in winter, would be more beneficial to the health than all the medicine the doctors may prescribe. For those who can walk, walking is preferable to riding. The muscles and veins are enabled better to perform their work. There will be increased vitality, which is so necessary to health. The lungs will have needful action; for it is impossible to go out in the bracing air of a winter’s morning without inflating the lungs. - Counsels on Health, pg 52

Our meals our all vegan buffet style. Oh my it is wonderful to taste such a variety of vegan dishes! We are learning of the vital importance in various ingredients that our bodies crave for ideal nutrition. Did you know that caloric restriction is most important to extending your lifespan? There is much more to say but it is close to my new bedtime. Final thought tonight...we are to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. He focuses on the wellbeing of others, always.
